The cathedral has an interesting history beginning in 597 when St Augustine arrived in Kent and established the first Cathedral, through to 1070-1077 when the Cathedral was rebuilt by Archbishop Lanfranc and right up to the present day. Since the Middle Ages, pilgrims and visitors have travelled to Canterbury Cathedral, hence it is one of the most visited places in the country.
