Horatio would like to clear one thing up, and he'll do it very politely: a pistachio is a seed, not a nut. He can also trace his family back to a particular orchard in southern Italy, should you ask. For all the grand pedigree he spent years being painfully shy, and it took a craft chocolate course to get him out of his shell — his words, and he's rather pleased with them. These days he's elbow-deep in ganache, hand-rolling truffles and pouring the sort of thick pistachio slabs the internet can't leave alone. He's brought you a batch. Go gently, he's still getting the hang of tempering.
He's a neat 14cm with an 11cm sitting height, which puts him comfortably on a desk, a kitchen shelf or in the top of a stocking. Soft green polyester, a split shell with his face peering out, stitched detail down the seam and two skippy little cord feet. Beans in the base keep him upright and surveying the worktop.
Amuseables Horatio Pistachio is in stock now at Wrapped! — pop into our Canterbury shop on Burgate to meet him, or order online for UK delivery. He's one of the easiest small gifts we sell: a baker, a chocolate obsessive, or a teacher who deserves better than another mug.
