Song thrushes among the strawberry beds — William Morris's best-loved design — printed onto tissue soft enough to fold around anything. It's the finishing touch that turns even the simplest parcel into something considered.
About the design
Strawberry Thief is one of the most famous patterns by William Morris (1834–1896), the designer, writer and driving force behind the Arts and Crafts movement. He took his inspiration from real life: the song thrushes he watched stealing fruit from the strawberry beds in the garden of his country home, Kelmscott Manor in Oxfordshire.
First produced in 1883 using a painstaking indigo-discharge printing technique, Strawberry Thief has become one of the most treasured designs in British decorative art, with the original held in museum collections including the V&A. Reproduced here, that same charm and intricacy comes to something you can wrap with, line a keepsake box, or simply keep for its own sake.
